Aya Zein is a Lebanese artist living in Beirut and a graduate of the Lebanese American University, where she studied fine arts.
Her artistic philosophy is to make sense of life’s simplicity and find beauty in the ordinary. The random objects and daily encounters inspire her to rethink complex forms and environments through the filter of her minimalistic expression.
Working with serene landscapes and still-life images, carefully posed, Aya simplifies even the most elaborate forms and often deletes light and shadow for flat forms in her paintings. This is one artistic strategy by which she would reflect her hope for a world uncongested by many of the complications of a contemporary life: an offer of refuge and invitation to political, social, and personal tangles of viewing life from an easier, sharper, more serene perspective.
